A covered patio can be well built and still sit unused. The structure is rarely what stops it. What stops it is the afternoon sun coming in flat under the roof, the dust that arrives ahead of a front, the mosquitoes that appear a few days after rain, and the one open side that decides whether the space is comfortable or abandoned.
A motorized screen closes an opening when you want it closed and disappears when you don't. That is the whole idea. What matters is which opening, which material, and what the structure can actually carry — and those are decisions made on site, not chosen from a page.

Straight answers about the limits
An ordinary motorized screen is not hail protection and not storm protection, and approval questions get raised before the order rather than after it. If an opening needs something a screen cannot give it, we say so first.
If motorized screens are the wrong answer for an opening, or for the whole space, we will say so before you spend money on them.

From first look to first descent
Consult
We start with what the space is failing to do — which side you stop using, at what time of year, and why. Photographs from where you actually sit are more useful than a floor plan.
Measure and specify
Every opening is measured and specified on its own, and anything that has to be reviewed — an association committee, a permit, a historic or river corridor question — is raised at this stage, not after the order.
Install and program
Installation, then the controls are programmed and handed over working. You should not need a manual to close one side of a patio.

Questions
What homeowners ask first
Can motorized screens be added to an existing covered patio?
Often, yes. What decides it is the structure rather than the screen: header depth, mounting surface, whether the posts can carry side tracks, and whether there is a sensible route for power. That is what we look at on site, and it is why a specification cannot be finalised from photographs alone.
Which problems do the different screen materials actually solve?
Solar mesh cuts sun and glare while keeping the view. Insect mesh closes the opening to mosquitoes and still breathes. A denser privacy weave reduces sightlines. Clear vinyl holds off wind-driven rain but does not breathe. No one material does all four, which is why the choice is made per opening — the fabric and mesh guide compares them in full.
Will I need HOA, historic district or city approval?
It depends entirely on where the property is, and it varies from one neighbourhood to the next inside a single city. We raise what may apply at the start of a project. We are not the approving body and we do not file applications on your behalf. What each of our markets publishes is set out in the approval and design review guide.
Do motorized screens protect against hail or severe weather?
No. An ordinary motorized screen is not hail protection and not storm protection. That matters here: the National Weather Service office in San Angelo identifies the Big Country and the Concho Valley as the areas in its warning region seeing the most severe hail. A retractable screen should be retracted ahead of severe weather, not left down through it.
What does a project cost?
