What we do

Outdoor rooms that work like rooms

Most covered patios in this region are built well and used less than they should be. The structure is not the problem. The problem is the afternoon sun arriving flat under the roofline, the grit that comes ahead of a front, the mosquitoes that appear a few days after rain, and the one open side that decides whether the space is comfortable or abandoned.

A motorized screen closes an opening when you want it closed and disappears when you do not. That is the whole idea. What we bring to it is the specification decision — which opening, which material, what the structure can carry, and how you will actually operate it — followed by the installation and the programming.

We work from San Angelo across the Concho Valley, the Big Country, the Permian Basin, the South Plains and the Texas Hill Country. Those are five distinct regions and they do not behave the same way, which is why each market gets its own page rather than a name swapped into a template.

Four principles, each of which is a method rather than a claim about our history.

01 — The opening

The measurement that matters is at your header

Not a size picked from a range. Header depth, mounting surface, post width and material, the slab edge and whether power can reach the opening all decide what is possible — and they are site facts, not catalogue facts. It is why we measure before quoting and why a number produced from photographs should be treated with suspicion.

02 — The material

The material follows the problem

Sun, insects, privacy and wind-driven rain are four different problems with four different answers. Choosing one fabric for a whole house is how a project ends up solving none of them properly. 03 — The order

The four layers, in order

System, fabric, application, control. The track and housing decide whether an opening is workable at all; the fabric decides which problem gets solved; the space decides what can be specified; and the control scheme decides whether the system gets used daily or twice. Reversing that order is how the right product ends up on the wrong opening.

  • Control is planned during specification, not afterwards.
  • Most control problems turn out to be power problems.

04 — Approval

Approval questions get raised at the start

An architectural committee, a municipal permit question, a historic district, or — in San Angelo — a Concho River corridor review. We raise what may apply before anything is specified rather than after the order. We are not the approving body, we cannot promise an outcome, and we do not file applications on your behalf.

We install screens. We do not make them.

Kudu Outdoor Living designs, specifies, installs and programs. We do not manufacture screen systems and we do not own the technology. The engineering, the material range, the finishes and the control options are the manufacturer's. What is ours is the specification decision, the installation, the programming and the handover — which is the part you are actually hiring us for.

We think the distinction matters. A dealer who blurs it is usually about to attribute a manufacturer's engineering to their own judgement.

We do not publish manufacturer specifications on this site. Wind ratings, spans, fabric openness figures, finishes, approval numbers and warranty terms are the manufacturer's, they differ by component, and they change. We confirm the current published figures for your specific openings, in writing, before anything is quoted.

How we talk about the work

What we publish, and what we do not

We do not publish claims we cannot document, which rules out most of what a website in this category usually leads with — counts, ratings, awards and named clients. We would rather be quieter and accurate.

It also rules out prices, because the variables genuinely dominate; the cost guide explains what moves a number instead. And it rules out presenting an everyday motorized screen as hail or storm protection, which in this region matters more than almost anywhere.

Where a screen is the wrong answer, we say so before you spend money on it — the comparison guide exists partly to talk some readers out of buying what we sell.
